What is Health Information Management?

Health Information Management is the integration of medical records, information technology, organizational skills, and the legal system. Our Health Information Management Department is responsible for the maintenance and security of both paper and electronic health information to support patient care and other administrative functions, while maintaining the patient’s right to privacy.

 

Our Department’s Mission

Our mission is to provide efficient and effective management of quality healthcare information to support the mission and vision of Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.

 

Customers

Our customers are any users of health information including but not limited to patients, family members, medical staff, allied health professionals, internal staff, and legitimate external requestors of data.

Our Services Include:

  • Storage and retrieval of medical records- scheduled and unscheduled; patient care and non-patient care
  • Release of information
  • Chart deficiency and record completion
  • Medical Transcription
  • Hospital-wide statistical reporting
